Restoration Story
Cross Over Two Bibles
A second-storey post and beam addition built over an existing log home, featuring antique church doors from the 1800s, carrying a story that spans continents.

Cross Over Two Bibles, it’s a simple story.
These clients had me design and build a second-storey post and beam structure over their existing log home.
They had found a pair of doors in an antique store and wanted me to build a closet incorporating them, which I did.
But the real story is in the doors.
Apparently, they were built in the 1800s in England using wood that came from Canada. They were originally installed in a church.
Later, the church was demolished, and the doors were shipped back to Canada eventually finding their way to my clients.
The Build
This project began with a vision:
to expand a handcrafted log home with a second-storey post and beam structure, blending old-world materials with new structural integrity.
The challenge was not just structural.
It was about respecting what was already there.
The Doors
The clients had found two antique doors
weathered, heavy, and full of character.
But what made them remarkable wasn’t just their appearance.
These doors were originally crafted in the 1800s in England,
from wood that had been harvested in Canada.
They were installed in a church.
Then, decades later after the building was lost
they made the journey back across the Atlantic.
Eventually, they found their way into this home.
The Craft
My role was to build something worthy of that history.
A custom closet was designed and built to frame the doors not replace them.
Every joint, reveal, and proportion was carefully considered so the doors remained the focal point.
This wasn’t just millwork.
It was about continuing a story that started over a century ago.
The Result
The finished space brings together:
1800s craftsmanship
Canadian timber
English heritage
Modern structural design
All in one place.
